If you’re like most parents, the idea of handing your child a smart device is terrifying. Even though kids can use smart devices to learn, have fun, and express creativity … there are some risks.
The good news for Samsung owners is that there’s an app designed to solve that exact problem — and it’s called Samsung Kids.
So let’s talk about what Samsung Kids is, why it’s useful, and how you can use it to increase your child’s digital safety.
What is Kids Mode on Samsung?
Samsung Kids, or Samsung Kids Mode, is a built-in feature that comes standard on certain Samsung devices. This includes Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets, or devices running Pie OS and higher.
You can enable Kids Mode before handing off your device to your kiddo. And if your child has their own devices, you can enable Kids Mode on those, too.
Kids Mode is a special kid-friendly environment with its own user profile and interface — much like what you’d find on Netflix or YouTube.
What’s especially great is that parents can set up controls in the app. This includes screen time limits, app usage, and more.
How to Set Up Samsung Kids
First, set up a new user profile for your child on a compatible device.
- Go to the home screen
- Tap the settings icon
- Tap users
- Select add user or profile

If the device doesn’t already have Samsung Kids installed, download the app from the Google Play Store.
Then set up and enable Kids Mode:

- Tap apps then Kids Mode
- Create and enter a four-digit PIN
- Enter your child’s name and birthday
- Accept the disclaimer
- Add apps to Kids Mode or choose to add them later
